the best food in athens, barcelona, istanbul, mexico city, shanghai.
seriously, don’t ask questions, just go. if only for the food porn.
tiramisu and other cakes, from a recent trip to Polonezköy, a village in Istanbul descended from Polish settlers from the 19th century.

my favorite breakfast treat: kaymak, a sort of clotted cream made from water buffalo milk, drenched in thick honey.

perfectly greasy köfte (meatballs) and buttery rice. the little salad of pickled red cabbage, carrots, and fresh tomatoes was a nice touch in the 90-something degree heat.
this photo was taken on a recent assignment. did I mention that I have the best job ever?

So I’ve been utterly negligent of this blog. I have a couple of valid excuses.
1) Turkish internet sux
2) I have a job, woah! My internship people offered to hire me on for real this summer. I’m helping them put together a couple of projects. The biggest is an app and website for navigating the culinary backstreets of various cities worldwide. Stay tuned, I’ll post about them when they’re publicly released (hopefully at the end of June).
3) I’ve had visitors — first my newly-graduated brother Sam and then my oldest friend Molly.
3) I’ve been saying too many good byes. A lot of people have been packing up and leaving me, most recently my lovely friend Anna, so we’ve had to do it big for the past couple of weeks. As in “it’s our last chance to eat at this restaurant! it’s our last chance to go to the university beach! it’s our last chance to go to this club!”, and so on.
4) I’ve been spending way too much time on boats (see below).
Whilst I continue to neglect poor lil’ Arayan Bulur, you can always check out my photo blog for shots from Istanbul and food photography that I do for work. I update that a lot more.
I continue to live the dream on a pseudo-shoe string. Don’t hate me ‘cause you ain’t me.

Ice Bars!

Secret meadows on campus!

Lil homies!

Cinco de Mayo on my balcony!

I went back to Boston for a week!

And saw my big brother graduate:

And took him back to Istanbul with me! Now we’re showing him how to live the good life — music festivals, chocolatey fruity sinfulicious waffles, tanning at the school pool with a view of the Bosphorus, ice cream, beer, and boat parties.
